As expected going through this adoption process can be mentally draining. You're constantly on the go. From the adoption agency to the doctor's office to the notary to the county tax acessor to the local police department and on and on. What you don't expect is the road beneath you to be as you fatigued as you are. This week in the Twin Cities we got that dose of reality. Last Wednesday, during rush hour, ordinary people traveling on 35W expected to cross the river without incident. Why would they think otherwise?
No one thinks about a city's infrastructure until a disaster strikes. We're just too busy wrapped up in our own lives. This week was a wake-up call. It's not just about terrorists blowing things up. There are multiple time bombs waiting to go off across the nation. Whether it's a decaying underground sewer system in NYC, sub-par levees in New Orleans or a fatigued bridge in Minneapolis, we need to clean up our act. It's a big job, but our children shouldn't have to ask every time they approach a bridge if it's safe to cross. We know they deserve better than that.
